UNCF / YMCA 9th Annual Portfolio Project

About This Event:

Program Sessions: August 23, 2014 - November 8, 2014
Extended Application Deadline: July 7, 2014

The college application process can be very daunting. Researching the schools, compiling the necessary information, requesting recommendations--and don't forget finding the resources to pay the tuition. Applying to college requires a systematic approach and adequate assistance. The Portfolio Project can help you get the process started.

UNCF in partnership with the YMCA will host the ninth annual UNCF Portfolio Project. The mission of the Portfolio Project is to increase the number of minority and low-income college and scholarship applicants from Washington State. The Portfolio Project provides a 10-week introductory boot-camp that guides 11th and 12th grade high school students through the college and scholarship application process.

The weekly Saturday sessions start with orientation on August 23 and end with the program celebration on November 8, 2014. Saturday Sessions start at 12:00 pm and end at 3:00 pm. Students are allowed two excused absences. Lunch is provided at each session and transportation assistance is available. The sessions introduce students, mentors, and parents/guardians to a new topic and allow students time to work with their mentors to complete parts of their portfolios. At the end of the program, students will have completed portfolios that they can use to apply for colleges and scholarships. The Portfolio Project teaches students how to make appropriate college choices and exposes students to Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

All Portfolio Project students who complete the program will be eligible for the Portfolio Project Scholarship.
