Lester C. Newman

Dr. Newman brings extensive experience in higher education administration and academics to the campus. Prior to his work at Wiley College, he served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Vice President for Development at Lane College, Jackson, Tennessee; served as a consultant for higher education; President and Professor of Political Science at Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS, for nine years; Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Political Science, Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC. In his career, he also served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor; Dean of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor; and Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Institutional Self-Study.

Newman received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern University, and his Master’s degree and Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from Atlanta University.

Newman has received a host of honors, awards and recognitions; he has over fifty noted, presentations and publications accompanied by over twenty-one professional memberships in highly esteemed associations, institutes, consortiums and organizations in higher education.

Newman and his wife Gloria are the proud parents and grandparents of three children and seven grandchildren.
