Walton-UNCF K-12 Education Fellows Program Accepting Applications

The Walton-UNCF K-12 Education Fellowship is a leadership and talent development initiative aimed at building a robust pipeline of high-achieving African Americans engaged in education reform in America. The program selects undergraduate juniors from select HBCUs to participate in a leadership development and paid intern placement program that partners with innovative K-12 educational reform enterprises. 

UNCF will cover summer housing and travel. Summer travel includes travel to the UNCF Student Leadership Conference, the host city, the closing conference and the student's home city.

Program Components

The program offers several opportunities to learn and grow:

  • A paid summer internship that exposes Fellows to professional careers at leading K-12 education organizations and schools focused on education
  • Participation in the annual UNCF Student Leadership Conference, a four-day professional development student leadership conference held before the start of their internship
  • A team education reform case competition
  • Senior year career coaching with a professional coach, to further the intern’s professional development after their internship experience
  • Alumni and networking opportunities to assist alumni in securing entry-level career positions in educational organizations and to cultivate alumni exposure to networking opportunities with education leaders

Eligibility Criteria

  • ALL majors are welcome
  • At least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be African American
  • U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
  • Must be enrolled in an HBCU institution
  • Must be classified as a junior
  • Willingness to relocate for the summer
  • Have demonstrated leadership experience within college campus and/or community
