Marian Anderson-Cummings is an Assistant Superintendent for Seminole County Public Schools. She is a proud graduate of Seminole County Public Schools, Florida State University and Nova University where she received her doctorate degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. Dr. Cummings has worked tirelessly with the students of Seminole County at both the elementary and secondary levels as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal and now Assistant Superintendent for almost 38 years.
In her current position with the district, she directs and supervises the Student and School Success department where her primary job is to oversee the improvement of academically struggling schools within the district. She works to ensure that school practices are aligned with the Superintendent’s vision and mission for all students. Over the past 25 years, she has developed, coached, and supervised a substantial cadre of principals and assistant principals as Instructional Leaders. Dr. Cummings also directs and supervises the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program where her enthusiasm for early education and love of learning can shine. She often says, “I can tell by the looks on their faces that they are excited about learning something new.”
Dr. Cumming’s dedication and commitment to Seminole County Public Schools and the community earned her the “2016 Martin Luther King” award from the city of Longwood, Florida. In 2018, Dr. Cummings earned the “Lamp of Knowledge” award from Seminole County Public Schools for her stellar leadership and her multitude of achievements within the role of Assistant Superintendent. She also served as the SCPS facilitator for the Sanford-Goldsboro Community Leaders where she hosted biannual community meetings in collaboration with community leaders. Dr. Cummings is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she has served in a variety of positions including Chaplin and Vice-President. Her involvement in community service, academic growth, and development of youth in Seminole County is unwavering.
When Dr. Cummings is not working or volunteering, she is reading romance novels, watching historical movies, serving in her church ministry, baking, and shopping. Her overall mission is to have a long-lasting impact in the county for building a solid foundation of academic achievement in early education and a positive impact that forever shapes Seminole County Public Schools.
