2023 UNCF Leadership Luncheon – Louisville

The Vice President of Academic Affairs is primarily responsible for the execution of institutional strategic priorities; academic affairs, including but not limited to, providing leadership for the planning, development, and delivery of distance learning programs and courses. In addition, Dr. Reed will work collaboratively cross-college with faculty, deans, and other institutional partners to ensure a unified approach and high-quality teaching standards in the online/teaching environment.

The Vice Provost oversees the Office of Information Technology, development of Centers of Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Mentoring, Executive Leadership Academy, and other educational innovation strategies to help the college navigate and lead the changing landscape of higher education.

Javan Reed is the immediate past Assistant Vice President for Extended Education at Wiley College. He has also led distance learning at the nation’s oldest Historically Black University (HBCU), Wilberforce University. He is an adept community collaborator, educator, and skilled visual artist. He holds degrees from Edward Waters College and Nova Southeastern University and recently completed his PhD in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University. Javan is a much sought-after speaker, workshop facilitator, host, and presenter. His passion for educational excellence is evident, as he has created countless curriculum platforms that have benefitted thousands of students.

Javan is an ardent HBCU supporter and advocate for marginalized students. His work with the Federally sponsored “Second Chance Pell” program, a program that affords incarcerated individuals a real chance at educational rehabilitation, is to be lauded and celebrated. This program is now at Simmons College of Kentucky, with approximately 150 incarcerated members enrolled. His business acumen is exemplary. As a business owner, Javan creates policies that enhance bottom lines, while constructing atmospheres where collaboration, diversity of thought and creativity are celebrated.

Javan is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the Higher Education Leadership Foundation, and a host of other civic organizations. No stranger to trauma and major life changes, Javan’s mission is to empower those with whom he connects to look past the immediate and forge new paths to successful living, both personally and professionally. Javan is a change agent who is unafraid to push the envelope and move the needle when it comes to the advancement of causes that matter. He is passionate about helping people find healthy perceptions of themselves so that they can create better social, economic, and educational opportunities for themselves and the community that supports them.

Logan C. Hampton is 10th president of Lane College by the Lane College Board of Trustees, named to the post in 2014.

Dr. Hampton has a doctorate in higher education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, received a master’s degree in student personnel services from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Arkansas Tech University. He also is a graduate of the Harvard Institute of Management and Leadership in Education. Before UALR, Hampton held positions at Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University and the University of Central Arkansas.

Prior to coming to Lane College, Hampton served in numerous student services capacities at UALR. His most recent appointment at UALR was vice provost for student affairs. In this position, Dr. Hampton served as the chief student affairs officer and led the student development and student life programs, including judicial affairs, budgetary and administrative services. In addition to working as a higher education administrator, Hampton was a member of the Board of Trustees for Arkansas Baptist College.

He and his wife, Susan, are the parents of three children: Elise, Crystal and Logan III.
