How We Shape Public Policy
In 2015, UNCF spearheaded a Capitol Hill campaign on behalf of HBCUs and other minority-serving institutions—those that serve African American, Hispanic American, Native American and Asian/Pacific Islander students. Our successful advocacy and leadership yielded a $32 million increase in U.S. Department of Education support for these institutions and the students they serve, the largest increase in six years. In 2014, UNCF’s advocacy with the U.S. Department of Education resulted in the restoration of federal Parent PLUS college loans, enabling nearly 400,000 students across the country to pursue higher education degrees.
While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together, there’s so much more we need to do. You can help. Write your elected officials. Tweet your Congressional representatives. Talk to your friends and colleagues. By getting involved, you can invest in better futures for students and all of us.
