C. Reynold Verret

Dr. C. Reynold Verret, a native of Haiti who came to the U.S. more than 50 years ago, was named May 14 by Xavier University of Louisiana’s board of trustees as the school’s next president, succeeding Dr. Norman C. Francis, who had served in that position since 1968.

Verret has served since 2012 as provost and chief academic officer at Savannah State University, recognized as the oldest institution of higher learning in coastal Georgia and the first public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the state.

“I am deeply honored to be elected as the next president of Xavier and am excited to engage the entire Xavier community in envisioning a future that sustains the university’s distinct mission in a changing higher education environment and that responds to societal need.”
