2024 UNCF Birmingham Walk for Education
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA (July 2024)—During the past 80 years, UNCF (United Negro College Fund) has helped nearly half a million students earn college degrees. As it marks such a major milestone, UNCF will continue its work at the UNCF Walk for Education at 7AM, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Railroad Park.
Members of the community and friends of UNCF are invited to take part in helping Alabama and Mississippi students get the college education they need and deserve to ensure better futures for all Americans. This year’s Walk for Education will include college readiness resource vendors for students and parents, voter registration, and a kids’ zone.
Lace up your walking shoes and join UNCF. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. Your participation will make a positive impact on the life of a student seeking higher education. The first 100 people to complete the walk will receive a gift certificate to Papa Johns (accepted at 36 locations).
“We invite all members of the community to join us as we raise scholarships to send deserving young people to college,” said Casi Ferguson, Area Development Director, UNCF. “Everyone who believes that ‘A mind is a terrible thing to waste and a wonderful thing to invest in®’ should attend this event as we inspire and empower our young people to secure passports to opportunity by way of their college degree.” Proceeds from this event directly support UNCF scholars and our member institutions. UNCF Birmingham services seven of the 37 UNCF institutions including: Rust College and Tougaloo College in Mississippi and Miles College, Oakwood University, Stillman College, Talladega College, and Tuskegee University in Alabama.
Special thanks to UNCF sponsors for making this all possible, including our Presenting Sponsor – PNC.
