The 2026 “A Mind Is…” New England Gala will recognize outstanding partners who are helping to advance educational and career opportunities for deserving students. The funds raised will help ensure more students have access to a life-changing college education and the pathways to realize their fullest potential.
Since its founding in 1944, UNCF has assisted more than 550,000 young men and women in attaining their college degrees. We are the nation’s largest and most effective organization dedicated to supporting historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and ensuring first-generation college students persist and achieve a college education.
Our 81st anniversary theme, “From Promise to Prosperity: UNCF Lights the Way,” reflects our mission to turn educational commitments into community-wide prosperity. We support students through scholarships and internship programs, strengthen our 37 member colleges and universities, and advocate for an equitable education for all.
Investor, author, and philanthropist, Demond Martin is the co-founder and CEO of WellWithAll, an innovative health and wellness company dedicated to advancing health equity for Black, Brown, and underserved communities.
Operating under an “inclusive capitalism” model, WellWithAll reinvests 20% of its profits into health initiatives tailored to specific community needs, tackling health disparities and ensuring a targeted approach to wellness. Demond’s commitment to co-founding WellWithAll is to create wellness solutions that add vitality and enhance life expectancy, starting with issues that disproportionately impact communities of color—heart health, sleep, and Vitamin D deficiency. WellWithAll’s first product line features vitamins and supplements made with clinically studied ingredients for maximum potency and absorbency, as well as a better-for-you energy drink launching Summer 2025.
Demond emphasizes a community-driven “for the culture” approach, actively engaging with local communities to gain insights and tailor its products to address specific health concerns. His leadership aims to empower individuals while fostering a sense of community and advocating for generational wellness in the pursuit of longevity and improved health for all.
Before leading WellWithAll, Demond was a senior partner at Adage Capital Management, where he invested in the consumer sector for 21 years. Earlier in his career, he served as the assistant to President Clinton’s White House Chief of Staff, Erskine Bowles. A graduate of Harvard Business School, he also holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from UNC Charlotte.
Alongside his wife Kia, Demond and their family foundation are passionately committed to closing the gaps created by racial and social injustice, with a focus on education and preventative healthcare. He has also contributed to numerous nonprofit boards, serving as a trustee at the Berklee College of Music, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Grammy Global Venture Board, and the Obama Foundation. In addition to his business endeavors, Demond is the author of his first book, Friends of the Good, set to be released in late 2025.
Charlie Baker became the NCAA’s sixth president in March of 2023 and has pursued a mission to improve the student-athlete experience, increase national office efficiency and advocate for college sports. In less than two years, he expanded support for student-athletes by launching a post-eligibility insurance program for all three divisions and worked with membership to enact Division I core guarantees — mandatory health and wellness benefits for student-athletes and new academic protections such as guaranteed scholarships if a student-athlete stops competing. He led the negotiation of a landmark media rights agreement with ESPN, increasing visibility for college athletes as they compete for a national championship. Additionally, Baker initiated the development of a fan database that will enrich the atmosphere for student-athletes competing, increase fan attendance and drive innovative ideas to enhance the championship experience for all.
Baker and college sports leaders continue to enact an array of policy changes enhancing collegiate athletics oversight – including Baker’s leadership in advocating for the banning of prop bets on college sports to protect the health, safety and well-being of over 500,000 student-athletes and the integrity of NCAA competition. On his first day in the position, Baker committed to meet with individuals from every conference office annually — a first for any NCAA president — and he has been intentional about soliciting feedback from student-athletes, coaches, administrators, athletics directors and conference commissioners. Baker thinks college sports are a uniquely American treasure, provide unmatched opportunity for young people to access higher education and in turn serve as one of the greatest human development programs in the world.
Before assuming his current role, Baker served as governor of Massachusetts — winning reelection in a landslide — and was consistently ranked as the most popular governor in America. He is credited with bringing bipartisan leadership to the state, successfully guiding Massachusetts through exceptionally turbulent periods. He led the commonwealth out of a billion-dollar budget deficit and into a surplus while cutting taxes and boosting investments in education and infrastructure. In addition to his two terms as governor, he has decades of experience spearheading transformations at high-profile institutions in the private and public sectors. During this time, he also co-authored “Results: Getting Beyond Politics To Get Important Work Done.”
Baker is a graduate of Harvard, where he was a member of the men’s varsity basketball team. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern.
