Under former President Biden’s Build Back Better initiative, Livingstone College received $1 million in biomanufacturing equipment, moving to the forefront of empowering underprivileged communities. This investment enables the college to provide comprehensive job training through a new biomanufacturing hub.
In 2025, the college also received a prestigious grant from the U.S. Department of State as part of the Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) program, which supports student mobility overseas in alignment with U.S. foreign policy. The grant was only awarded to 37 colleges and universities, further highlighting Livingstone College’s commitment to global education.
And throughout FY25, the college secured several significant grants and donations including a $34,000 innovation grant from The Home Depot, Inc., a $200,000 planning grant from The Annie E. Casey Foundation and an extraordinary $7 million donation from an anonymous donor. These funds have allowed the college to enhance infrastructure and make substantial capital investments, such as renovating its Harris and Dancy residence halls.
Livingstone College President Dr. Anthony J. Davis introduced two pivotal programs during the year: the HOPE Emancipation Project and the Career Readiness Institute. The HOPE Emancipation Project offers youth aging out of foster care the opportunity to pursue higher education at Livingstone College through scholarships, housing and other essential services. The Career Readiness Institute provides students with critical tools to find employment or pursue graduate education, reducing the number of graduates who are unprepared or underemployed. The institute offers students career-focused instruction and college and career readiness training aligned with their academic majors as early as their freshman year.
Investment in Livingstone College represents more than support for one campus or one region—this critical funding helps fuel the future of the United States. Every scholarship, new facility and workforce training initiative helps prepare a new generation of leaders who will contribute to North Carolina’s economy. Strengthening HBCUs like Livingstone builds a more inclusive and competitive workforce—ensuring better futures for all Americans.
