2024 UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball – Tampa Bay
The Inaugural UNCF Tampa Bay Mayor’s Masked Ball is a premier fundraising gala and major social event focusing on raising awareness of the need and benefits of a college education, the students UNCF serves and the contributions of historically black colleges and universities. Hosted by a diverse group of corporate sponsors, local businesses, and professional organizations, the inaugural UNCF Tampa Bay Mayor’s Masked Ball is an evening of celebration attended by civic leaders, alumni, dignitaries, volunteers, and friends of UNCF.
This must-attend event is full of fun, fashion, and glamour, and supports UNCF’s mission of investing in Better Futures® for the young men and women we serve by helping them move to and through college.

Dr. Jamal A. Brown is a Clinical Pharmacist and Associate Professor with Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Pharmacy. As a faculty member with FAMU, he is also a Clinical Pharmacist with Tampa General Hospital, where he manages patients in primacy care conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, and various Cardiac Conditions. Dr. Brown also serves as a member of the FAMU Board of Trustees and the Faculty Senate President for all faculty of the University. Dr. Brown’s practice experience includes being a Clinical Pharmacist with the Veterans Affairs (VA), teaching as a Pharmacy Professor with FAMU for 11 years, writing questions for the National Pharmacy Licensure (NAPLEX), and being a retail pharmacist with Publix and CVS Pharmacies. Dr. Brown is still a retail Pharmacist at Zephyrhills Community Pharmacy in Zephyrhills, FL.
Dr. Brown is a Tallahassee native but grew up in church in Quincy, FL. He grew up singing, playing the piano and saxophone, and directing choirs. Over the years, he has worked with various youth groups and church choirs to teach songs of joy. While enrolled in the FAMU College of Pharmacy, he and colleagues started a choir for students and faculty. In his academics, music became a tool that he used to create songs about challenging materials when struggling in pharmacy school. Shortly after college, Dr. Brown was ordained as a minister with the Family Worship and Praise Center in Tallahassee, FL.
Notably, Dr. Brown’s innovative teaching style incorporates music. In 2023, Dr. Brown turned his FAMU Pharmacy class into a choir to learn about type 2 diabetes. A student recorded the experience, which went viral on TikTok. The video reached over 300,000 views and earned extensive media coverage from BET, Yahoo News, and the Tallahassee Democrat. Major news outlets, including WCTV News, ABC Action News (Tampa), Inside Edition, and Good Morning America have showcased his inspiring story. Beyond academia, Dr.
Brown is a sought-after consultant, instructing dentists in sedation dentistry and discussing critical topics such as antibiotic stewardship and opioid misuse. He is currently a member of the Gamma Zeta Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Tampa, and the CEO of Jamal Brown Photography, LLC.
Dr. Brown is married to his college sweetheart, Dr. Carmen Brown, who is a Clinical Pharmacist for the James Haley VA System here in Tampa. The two met in Pharmacy School as classmates at FAMU. They now have a beautiful 3- year-old daughter, Olivia.
