Dr. Verjanis A. Peoples
Dr. Verjanis A. Peoples currently serves as Acting President and Interim Provost & Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs at Saint Augustine’s University. She is also Vice President of Peoples Advanced Consulting Group, LLC, which focuses on transforming educational institutions through tailored consulting solutions.
Dr. Peoples brings extensive experience in higher education, having served as Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Education at Southern University.
She has led successful accreditation efforts, developed new academic programs, and implemented innovative initiatives such as Louisiana’s first Teacher Apprenticeship Program and a year-long residency model for teacher preparation. She has also led efforts to create new programs, reaffirm academic programs and sustain status of academic programs through the Louisiana Board of Regents, National Specialty Area Organizations, States Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Dr. Peoples is active in national education policy and accreditation, serving on boards and councils including the North Carolina Independent Colleges & Universities, CAEP, and the Louisiana Board of Examiners. She is also a published scholar and recipient of multiple awards, including the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Grantsmanship.
She is a member of numerous professional, civic and academic organizations, currently serving on the Board of the Louisiana Board of Examiners, the National Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, heads the Academic Council in the School of Education, and is a member of the Louisiana Dean’s Council for Teacher Education. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Greater Baton Rouge Women Council, and the Working Interfaith Network Partnership, and remains actively involved in her community and church.
