Grant to Assist College Students from Pennsylvania Area Prepare for Careers

(PHILADELPHIA) – The Helen D. Groome Beatty Trust, administered by BNY Mellon Wealth Management, recently awarded a $20,000 grant to the Philadelphia local office of UNCF (United Negro College Fund) to support career readiness for college students from the Greater Philadelphia area.

While the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania has supported UNCF’s higher education initiatives in Pittsburgh over the years, it marks the first time the Philadelphia Area Office of UNCF has received support from the Beatty Trust, forging a new partnership that will help deserving students make it to and through college.

Groome Beatty Trust through BNY Mellon Wealth Management and look forward to a fruitful partnership that will create better futures for our students, and in turn, for us all,” said Renetta E. Holloway, UNCF Development Director with the Philadelphia office. “We could not do the work we do in helping deserving students make it to and through college—and be adequately prepared for 21st century careers—without the support of our donors.”

The funds are restricted to support initiatives designed to help college students from Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania, Delaware and Southern New Jersey to prepare for careers. These initiatives include career coaching for professional development; recruitment support and additional opportunities for area students to attend the annual UNCF Student Leadership Conference in the summer of 2016; and UNCF’s targeted outreach to select historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) informing them of the various internships and fellowships UNCF offers through its corporate partners.
