Houston’s 2023 UNCF Walk for Education Recap

The Houston area 2023 UNCF Walk for Education was an extraordinary event that brought together nearly 1200 attendees in support of education and empowerment. Presented by Shell USA, Inc., this year’s walk was a resounding success, raising over $260,000 and counting thanks to the generous contributions of 30+ sponsors and registered attendees.

The event wasn’t just about fundraising; it was an educational extravaganza. UNCF scholarships and programs were on hand to provide valuable information to high school students, guiding them on how to create an ideal student profile for a brighter future.

Healthcare took center stage as well, with Harris Health providing essential vaccines to youth, ensuring the community’s well-being.

Art and innovation were celebrated with pride. Taylor Brione wowed attendees with her impressive display of Black Barbie dolls from her collection, a powerful representation of diversity and empowerment. Boeing showcased a rocket demo, igniting the curiosity of aspiring young scientists. Sports and literacy merged seamlessly, as the Houston Astros Literacy Van distributed free books to youth in the Young Genius Playground, promoting both education and the joy of reading.

Coca-Cola added an energetic twist by offering samples of their new energy drink, Body Armor, keeping participants refreshed and motivated throughout the event.

The logistics were expertly managed by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
