Let Us March On…

UNCF proudly celebrates its 79th anniversary, April 25.

On this day in 1944, the United Negro College Fund was incorporated in New York with 27 charter members. Attending one of UNCF’s first meetings were John D. Rockefeller, Jr.; UNCF founder Frederick Douglass Patterson; and Walter Hoving, President of Lord & Taylor and UNCF’s first national campaign director. During UNCF’s first annual campaign in 1944, the 27 charter members raised $765,000, more than three times the amount that they had all raised combined in the previous year.

Since 1944, we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensure that every voice is lifted and has the opportunity to sing.
