Rounding Up for Education: How Macy’s Turns Small Donations into Big Impact

For the fifth year in a row, Macy’s, is hosting a Black History Month Round-Up Campaign in support of UNCF (United Negro College Fund). From now to Feb. 28, Macy’s customers can donate online or round up in-store purchases to provide students attending historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with scholarships to further their educational pursuits through Macy’s Mission Every One Scholarship Fund.
Since its inception, the campaign has made a significant impact—last year alone, it raised nearly $1.4 million. These contributions offer crucial support to students who might otherwise find it financially challenging to complete their education.
Jasmine Walker, a junior at Fisk University, was one of those students. She carried unpaid tuition debt into her sophomore year, putting her education at risk and preventing her from participating in on-campus activities. As the deadline to settle her balance approached, Walker received the Macy’s Mission Every One Scholarship, which helped her clear her debt and remain at Fisk.
With her collegiate future no longer in jeopardy, Walker could focus on academics and professional growth. She became a resident assistant (RA) and successfully ran for class president. Additionally, Walker’s grades saw a significant boost. Reducing her nearly 40-hour workweek allowed her to focus more on her studies.
“I know there’s a lot of people that apply for the Macy’s scholarship, so for my essay to be chosen and for me to have such an opportunity was the greatest blessing I could’ve had that year,” she shared.
Walker will graduate in spring 2026 with a double major in criminal justice and sociology. Her goal is to become an FBI agent.
Over the past four years, Macy’s has raised more than$4.5 million for UNCF, supporting more than 600 HBCU students through scholarships and providing vital funding for the organization. Walker’s story brings to life the impact of the retailer’s partnership with UNCF and mission to help the leaders of tomorrow realize their full potential.
