UNCF Strengthens Its Support of HBCUs with $1.49M Investment

UNCF was selected for its leadership and impact in driving transformation for HBCUs and PBIs seeking to improve student and institutional outcomes

UNCF will partner with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with the foundation’s postsecondary success strategy, the Intermediaries for Scale initiative. After a rigorous selection process, UNCF was chosen by the foundation because of its current and historic support of HBCUs and predominantly black institutions (PBIs). With an initial two-year investment, UNCF will work alongside 12 other organizations to build their capacity to work with colleges and universities interested in student-centered transformations. Funding will build connections across the organizations and institutions to accelerate and streamline the learning and sharing of promising practices.

The initiative will be managed through UNCF’s Institute for Capacity Building (ICB), the only organization dedicated to improving the operational and institutional effectiveness of black colleges. ICB supports institutional sustainability by designing, developing and delivering a broad range of capacity-building programming, focused on improving an institution’s ability to deliver greater student outcomes, 21st century-aligned curriculum and a financially viable business model.
