UNCF K-12 Education Fellowship Selection Process and Timeline

What happens after you submit your application?

Each year, UNCF accepts applications from hopeful HBCU students who wish to be selected as a Fellow in the next cohort. Read below for an overview of the Fellow selection process.

Submit your application by January 9, 2023.


Phase 1: Online Application

  • Submit your application, Monday, October 17, 2022 – Monday, January 9, 2023, 11:59pm ET.

Phase 2: One-Way Video and Letter of Recommendation

  • Select applicants will advance to the semi-finalist round. Notifications will be sent to all semi-finalists by January 16, 2023.
  • Semi-finalists must complete and submit a one-way video interview and a letter of recommendation by February 6, 2023, at 11:59pm ET.

The selection committee must receive your letter of recommendation by February 6, 2023. Letters of recommendation can either be submitted through the Sparkhire platform or sent via email to: k12fellow@uncf.org. Please include your first and last name in the subject line for all email communication, for example: “John Doe Letter of Recommendation.”

Phase 3: Host Partner Organization & Fellow Matching

  • Select candidates will advance to the finalist round. Notifications will be sent to all finalists by February 24, 2023.
  • Finalists’ and Host Partners will meet virtually to engage in the final screening process – March 2023.
  • Finalists’ will be matched with a host organization to fulfill their 10-week summer experience, based on organizational fit and the student’s specific area(s) of interest in the education sector
