Sinem Basaran

D. Sinem Basaran, Ph.D. is a Research Associate for UNCF’s Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute (FDPRI). She earned her doctorate in communication from Georgia State University (GSU), where she also worked as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant. She taught various undergraduate media and communication courses to diverse student populations at GSU. Her dissertation research examined college students’ social media-based support seeking for various life stressors (e.g., academic, financial, etc.) and mental health. Sinem is a mixed-methods researcher trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistical data analysis during her doctoral study at Georgia State University. In her role at FDPRI, she uses her quantitative research experience, such as survey design and management, as well as data analysis and program evaluation.
