UNCF Toyota Scholars: FAQs
What is the application process and selection timeline?
As part of the application, students are required to complete a one-page personal statement about their career interests and goals that addresses their interest in the Program and/or Toyota.
The Scholarship application must be submitted online through the UNCF website by August 8, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Phase I applicants will be notified in September 2023 if they are selected as a scholarship recipient or invited to become a Toyota Scholar.
The Internship application must be submitted online through the UNCF website by August 10, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Phase II applicants will be notified in September 2023 if they are in the semi-finalist talent pool.
All internship offers will be extended and finalized by November 2023.
Should I complete both the Scholarship and Internship applications?
We recommend that you complete both the Scholarship and Internship applications as both applicant pools will be reviewed and ranked independently.
What are the eligible majors?
Acceptable majors are listed on each Program page of the application.
What are the eligible classifications for the Scholarship and Internship?
Full-time students must be considered sophomores or juniors at the time of application.
Is the scholarship renewable?
The scholarship is not renewable, but students who continue to meet the eligibility criteria can apply the following academic year for consideration.
Can I reapply to the Program if I was a Toyota Scholar during the most recent academic year?
Past Toyota Scholars who continue to meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply again for consideration in the next academic year.
When will students be notified on whether they have been awarded the scholarship?
Students will be notified eight (8) weeks or longer, after the closing date of the application.
Can I start the scholarship and/or internship application if I don’t have all the required information?
You can start either application, however, you should not submit the application until all required information is included.

Can I still submit my application after the application deadline?
No application will be accepted beyond the application deadline.
Is FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) required to submit an application for the Scholarship?
Yes, the scholarship is need-based, therefore you will have to complete FAFSA.
What are the participation expectations of a UNCF Toyota Scholar?
A UNCF Toyota Scholar must:
- Participate in the “Toyota Day” Virtual Summit
If I accept the invitation to become a UNCF Toyota Scholar after not being selected for a scholarship or internship, will there be other opportunities to compete for a scholarship?
At each “Toyota Day” Summit, we will randomly award $2,500 scholarships to two participating scholars.
