Allen Univ. Alum Participating in Obama Foundation Community Leadership Corps
Columbia, SC, is one of only three cities in the country selected to host a new Obama Foundation Community Leadership Corps for young adults, aimed at training leaders and addressing community issues, and one of [UNCF-member institution] Allen University’s own was selected to be a part of the Initiative.
Gene Morris, ’17 will be a part of a six-month program aimed to train young leaders to engage in civic work. The program offers in-person and online programming to increase leadership skills and expand networks which will guide participants to choose an issue in their communities and collaborate with others from the community to address the issue.
The program included a two-day kick-off in June, a three-day boot-camp in August and community-based work in September and October.
The Community Leadership Corps program is designed to empower and train young leaders to create the world they want to live in by working to address an issue in their community. The program offers in-person and online programming to increase leadership skills and expand networks. In each city, the program will consist of two in-person trainings, online trainings, and ongoing guidance. Highly motivated young people who believe in their ability to make change will participate in this program—individuals who have bold ideas for the future and are eager to grow as community leaders.
