I Dream Big Charter School Opens on Stillman College Campus

A ribbon cutting was held at the end of February to commemorate the opening of the new I Dream Big Charter School, located on the campus of UNCF-member institution Stillman College.

It is the first HBCU-Charter School partnership in the state of Alabama, and Tuscaloosa’s first and only tuition-free charter school. School leaders aim to create a pipeline to the historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) experience.

The I Dream Big Charter School, located on the campus of UNCF-member institution Stillman College, is the first HBCU-Charter School partnership in the state of Alabama, and Tuscaloosa’s first and only tuition-free charter school. There are currently more than 150 students from 6th to 8th grade enrolled in the school, with goals to increase enrollment next year. I Dream Big Charter School also plans to add a 9th grade class in the future.

Delays prevented the school building from opening in time for the fall 2025 semester; staff and students used Stillman classrooms. But now, they can move into their new building.
