UNCF and Element Fleet Management Corp. Launch New Scholarship Program to Further College Access to Students in the DMV and Twin Cities, MN

The Washington, DC, and Minneapolis offices of UNCF (United Negro College Fund) are pleased to introduce the UNCF Element Fleet Scholarship. Element Fleet Management, a new donor and partner of UNCF, will make higher education more affordable this fall for three Black students through a need-based scholarship of up to $10,000 per student. Element Fleet Management has offices across the globe with two of its largest offices located in Sparks, MD, and Hopkins, MN. This new program will provide students with a demonstrated interest in pursuing careers in business- and business-related fields with academic support as well as ongoing mentoring, internship opportunities, networking and more throughout their college career.

“Thank you, Element Fleet Management,” said Harry Christian III, development director of the Washington, DC, office. “During this time of unrest, we are excited to have the support from Element as we fight to secure the future of our talented Black students in the DMV. This new scholarship enables us to support brilliant students who want to earn degrees but lack the resources to do so especially during this global pandemic. We are so grateful to have Element Fleet Management as a valuable partner.”

The program is currently accepting applications in the DMV and Minneapolis-St. Paul area. To be considered for the award, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be Black/African American
  • Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a demonstrated, unmet financial need as verified by their college or university
  • Be enrolled full-time as a college junior or senior when applying
  • Major in a business-related field such as marketing, finance, sales or human resources. Other business-related fields may be considered.

“Element Fleet Management is proud to support UNCF,” said Sheri McGrath, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Element. “Through our Black Employee Business Resource Group, we’ve supported and actively participated with UNCF for many years and look forward to an even deeper continued partnership. At Element, we care deeply about education, employment and community aid. Providing scholarships, mentorship and internships to the youth of tomorrow will prepare the next generation of our workforce and offer exposure to industries such as fleet management.”

Program applications are due by June 3 at 11:59 p.m. EST in the DMV and by June 30 at 11:59 p.m. CST for Minneapolis-St. Paul Area applicants. Applicants can apply at UNCF.org/Scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded and administered by UNCF. Recipients will be notified by Aug. 31 for DMV and Sept. 10 for Minneapolis-St. Paul.
