UNCF Teams Up with Michael Jordan’s Community Impact Platform to send Students to College
If you’re thinking about college, or if you’re the parent of someone who is, you know that a high school student’s grades and test scores don’t tell the whole story about a student’s potential to succeed in college and, after college, to launch a career of success and service. Sound familiar? Then UNCF Seattle’s Portfolio Project may be just what you’re looking for. And now that UNCF has teamed up with the Jordan brand’s Wings Scholars Program, the Portfolio Project is better than ever.
A partnership with College Access Now, YMCA Multi-Cultural Achievers Program, YMCA Minority Achievers Program, and Leisure Hour Jr. Golf Program, the Portfolio Project strives to ensure that students create a portfolio that will support their efforts to gain admission to college and to receive the financial aid they need in order to cover the cost of getting a college degree. The Portfolio Project provides an 11-week introductory boot-camp for the college- and scholarship-application process to underrepresented students. It also advises high school juniors and seniors on making college choices and exposes students in the Pacific Northwest to scholarship opportunities at HBCUs and local colleges and universities. Portfolio Project sites are located in Seattle, Tacoma, Marysville and Portland.
To make a good opportunity even better, Portfolio Project – Portland students have been nominated to apply for the Wings Scholarship, an educational impact program that provides financial assistance to college students in five Pacific Northwest cities, now including Portland. The Wings Scholars Program is the Jordan Brand’s community impact platform, inspired by Michael Jordan’s commitment to greatness and education.
UNCF Seattle, the Portfolio Project and the Jordan Brand Wings Scholars Program: For college-bound students, it’s a winning combination.
