Livingstone College, one of UNCF's member institutions, located in Salisbury, NC, has recently strengthened its position as a center of innovation and opportunity.

Livingstone College has been at the forefront of empowering underprivileged communities, receiving $1 million in biomanufacturing equipment from former President Biden’s Build Back Better Initiative. This investment will enable the college to provide comprehensive job training through its biomanufacturing hub.

Last year, the college received a prestigious grant from the U.S. Department of State, as part of the Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program, which empowers student mobility overseas in alignment with U.S. foreign policy. This grant was only awarded to 37 colleges and universities, further highlighting Livingstone College’s commitment to global education.

Throughout 2024, the college secured significant grants and donations including a $34,000 innovation grant from The Home Depot, Inc., a $200,000 planning grant from The Annie E. Casey Foundation and an extraordinary $7 million donation from an anonymous donor. These recent grants and donations will enable the college to enhance infrastructure and make substantial capital investments, such as renovating its Harris and Dancy residence halls, which are set to open by fall 2025.

Livingstone College’s President Dr. Anthony J. Davis also introduced two pivotal programs last year: the HOPE Emancipation Project and the Career Readiness Institute. The HOPE Emancipation Project offers youth aging out of foster care the opportunity to pursue higher education at Livingstone College through scholarships, housing and other essential services. “The Career Readiness Institute provides students essential tools for finding employment or furthering their education in graduate school, significantly reducing the number of students who graduate unprepared and underemployed,” said Davis. “Students start receiving career-focused instruction aligned with their academic majors as early as their freshman year.”

Through growth like this, Livingstone College is making a difference that ultimately invests in better futures for all Americans.
