McQueen, a junior at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), a UNCF-member institution, received the Foot Locker Foundation Scholarship from UNCF for the 2023-2024 school year. “The Foot Locker Foundation Scholarship from UNCF has been a tremendous help to alleviate financial stress,” McQueen shared. “It allowed me to focus more on my studies and extracurricular activities. It was a great help, especially since our tuition went up an extra $5,000.”

McQueen, who is double majoring in psychology and Spanish and is in the honors program at Clark Atlanta, plans to attend law school with a focus on international law and psychology. “My goal is advocating for human rights and policy change,” she said. “I’m particularly interested in attending Duke Law or the University of Georgia to continue to develop my skills in these areas.”

McQueen always knew she wanted to go to law school, but she wasn’t interested in majoring in policy. “I wanted to know more about the insides of other people so I can include that in law,” she explained. “Especially if I want to work with the community, I really need to know how people think, how they perceive things.”

When she was considering universities, McQueen knew she wanted to attend a school outside of North Carolina. She toured CAU with her mom the summer of her senior year of high school and fell in love with the campus. “I had a sense of home when I came onto campus,” she shared. “No other campus gave me that sense of belonging and home the way Clark did.”

McQueen contributes to that feeling of belonging on campus. She serves as a Bonner Servant leader at CAU, a program where students serve their community while in college and complete 8-10 hours of community service weekly during the school year. Students in the program receive financial aid from the university through scholarships and/or work study.

“Clark has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, while also making personal connections,” she said. McQueen was recently inducted into the National Council of Negro Women at CAU.

“Without UNCF’s support, my journey at Clark would not have been possible,” McQueen shared. “I look forward to continuing my educational journey, which has been one of growth and service. And I look forward to making an impact in society.”
