ESPN’s Rhoden Fellowship
The Rhoden Fellowship is a one-year sports, journalism internship focused on training aspiring African American journalists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The fellowship, established in 2017, is named after award-winning sports columnist William C. Rhoden, who joined Andscape (formerly The Undefeated) during the same year. Funded by ESPN and The Walt Disney Company, the fellowship was created as part of Andscape’s mission to develop new voices to increase diversity and inclusion in the newsroom.
Program description
- One-year immersive fellowship includes a 10-week summer internship
- Professional development through The Walt Disney Company / UNCF Enhanced Corporate Scholars Program
- One-time $5,000 award, eligible for renewal during senior year
Candidate requirements
- Journalism experience as a writer and/or reporter
- Interested in – and knowledge about – sports, pop culture and current events as it relates to communities of color
- Experience using WordPress, Photoshop in addition to shooting and editing video content
- Social media savvy
- Experience in shooting and editing video
