UNCF’s bold $1 billion campaign will enhance endowments at HBCUs

Patty Quillin, philanthropist, and Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, have given $40 million each to UNCF (United Negro College Fund), Spelman College and Morehouse College.

Students will receive experience and will be empowered with substantial influence over decisions to help sustain the future of their institutions

UNCF-member institution Huston-Tillotson University President Melva K. Wallace recognized as the 2026 recipient of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) College/University President of the Year Award.

A ribbon cutting was held at the end of February to commemorate the opening of the new I Dream Big Charter School, located on the campus of UNCF-member institution Stillman College.

The scholarship, made possible by a $40 million gift from Netflix’s Patty Quillin and Reed Hastings, awards students with full rides to Morehouse.

The Center will serve as a hub for cutting-edge research, hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, positioning Claflin students at the forefront of emerging fields in science, technology and innovation.

UNCF hosted its National “A Mind Is…”® Gala at The Westin Washington, D.C. Downtown on Thursday, March 5, welcoming about 600 supporters, educators, corporate partners and community leaders for an inspiring evening dedicated to expanding educational opportunity.
